Viewing images and controlling the size of images viewed

The EMu Multimedia repository can hold all of your diverse multimedia, including master copies of your images. Often these master files will be extremely large and, depending on your network and server infrastructure, can take some time to display. In most instances, users do not need to view the master image and a far smaller but perfectly serviceable version of the master can be displayed far more quickly.

With a combination of two Registry entries:

it is possible to manage the automatic generation of image resolutions specifically for display purposes:

  • With the Resolutions Registry entry we specify what resolutions are automatically generated when an image is added to a Multimedia record.
  • With the Images|Default Registry entry we specify the maximum size of images to display to a user by default. The Images|Default Registry entry does not restrict a user / group from accessing larger images, it only determines which image is displayed by default. Users will continue to have access to all available resolutions on the Resolutions tab of the Multimedia module and using the Multimedia>Launch Viewer menu option in the Multimedia module (unless a Maximum Registry entry has been specified).
